The defending champions England registered their first win in ICC Women's ODI World Cup as they defeated India by 4 wickets at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Wednesday.
Chasing an easy 135-run target, England got off to a poor start as Jhulan Goswami trapped Tammy Beaumont in front of the wicket while Meghna Singh scalped Danielle Wyatt in the 3rd Over. However, captain Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver ensured that the defending champions did not slip further. They put up a 65-run stand for the third wicket before Pooja Vastrakar separated the two.
Despite a paltry total, Indian bowlers led by Jhulan Goswami made England sweat to overhaul the target as they took 6 English wickets. Knight remained unbeaten on 53 as England chased down the target inside 32 Overs.

Earlier, inconsistency returned to haunt Indian batters as they were bundled out for a mere 134 runs inside 37 Overs.
None of the Indian batters looked comfortable at the crease and the team crumbled like a house of cards. Last match's centurion Smriti Mandhana was the top scorer for India with 35 runs while Richa Ghosh scored 33 runs.
India's batting display was in sharp contrast from their previous match where they smashed 317 runs against West Indies. Another crunch game is coming up for India as they will lock horns with the table-toppers Australia on March 19 at Eden Park, Auckland
