Over the years: Team India's journey to their 5th Under-19 World Cup title

It’s a High-Five!

India who were already the most successful teams in the ICC Under 19 World Cup tournament pushed the bar higher after the Boys in Blue clinched their record-extending 5th title after defeating England by 4 wickets.

Here’s a look at the past years when the Indian colts made us proud on the world stage:

2000

India entered the edition as mediocre ended up winning their first-ever Under-19 World Cup Trophy. The Mohammad Kaif-led team defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in their maiden final.

In the last match of the tournament in Colombo, India chased 179 with 56 balls remaining. Yuvraj Singh who later emerged as an Indian cricket star was a part of this team.

2008

Virat Kohli who rose to the zenith of Indian cricket picked up the 2nd Under-19 World Cup for the country in 2008. The Kohli-led team which had the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Manish Pandey defeated South Africa.

The Indian team was bowled out for 159, however, the bowlers presented a match-winning performance restricting the Proteas to 103-8 in a rain-interrupted game in Kuala Lumpur.

2012

It was a record-equalling third title for the Indian colts.

Unmukt Chand led India brought down the defending champions and 3-time winners Australians by 6 wickets in Queensland. Unmukt Chand’s unbeaten 100 helped India win while chasing a 226 run target. Hanuma Vihari was a part of this Under 19 WC-winning squad.

2018

Captain Prithvi Shaw scripted history for India as his team picked up India's record 4th title in New Zealand. India who were coached by Rahul Dravid defeated Australia once again by 8 wickets to bring home the coveted title. Assisting Shaw throughout the tournament was Shubhman Gill who has since made his name in the senior circuit.
