After David Warner withdrew the bid to overturn his lifetime captaincy ban, many former and current Aussie players have voiced their support for the veteran opener.

The latest to join the list are Ian Chappell and Steve Smith.

Former Australian captain Chappell said that Cricket Australia never protected the interest of the players and Warner's outburst on the captaincy ban has exposed the authorities' tendency for back-side protection.

Meanwhile, Smith, who was Australia's stand-in captain against the West Indies, said that banning someone for life from leadership is just fundamentally wrong.

33-year-old Smith also stated that David served the time as he did and for us, he is a leader on the ground and he is doing a tremendous job on and off the field.
