Australian great Ian Chappell has hailed Virat Kohli's captaincy and feels that the ex-skipper has only taken Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni's legacy forward. The former Aussie skipper feels that the Indian batsman was an exception as a skipper because he did not curb his enthusiasm and was able to take the Indian team to a higher level.

Praising his historic achievement Down Under and in England, the 78-year-old said that Kohli had substantially built on the Ganguly and Dhoni's legacy in 7 years at the helm.

Chappell feels India's 2-0 loss in South Africa was the ex-skipper's biggest disappointment. He, however, defended him by saying 'Kohli did not captain in the middle of the series'. Kohli missed the 2nd Test vs South Africa due to a back sprain.

Chappell further lauded Kohli for believing in Rishabh Pant. Kohli has a number of individual achievements but none is bigger than the development of Rishabh Pant as a wicketkeeper and batter.

Virat Kohli who breached several formidable forts for India has the best figures when it comes to Test cricket. He has won 40 out of 68 Tests he has led. While Kohli willingly gave up his Test and T20I leadership, he was forced to resign from the ODI captaincy as well.
