The ruling TMC in Bengal has hit back a day after the BJP wrote to the Election Commission alleging party chief Mamata Banerjee has violated the Model Code of Conduct by announcing cash rewards for Durga Puja clubs despite the declaration of by-poll dates.
TMC claimed the BJP’s ‘scant regard for Maa Durga and the traditions of Bengal stands exposed’. Taking a jibe at BJP the TMC said that ‘self-proclaimed custodians of Hindu culture and values’ has no understanding Hinduism. It further accused the BJP of disrespecting Hindu festivals.

On Tuesday, a West Bengal BJP delegation visited the EC office in Kolkata and urged the EC to take action against the Bhawanipore candidate Mamata Banerjee. The delegation said Mamata must be restrained from participating in ensuing by-polls.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee who lost to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram must win the Bhawanipore bypoll to continue as Bengal Chief Minister.
Mamata is likely to file her nomination for Bhawanipore bypoll on Friday.
