The Election Commission has asked the Health Ministry for the “factual position” regarding a complaint by the Trinamool Congress against the use of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo on Covid-19 vaccination certificates.

The poll panel said, need to ascertain whether these certificates are indeed being distributed on the instructions of the Health Ministry. The TMC had approached the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer alleging that the use of PM’s photo is a “blatant misuse of official machinery” and violates the Model Code of Conduct.

Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh called these allegations “baseless”, adding that the vaccination drive had started before the announcement of the election dates.
