A court in Mumbai on Tuesday adjourned the hearing in the ongoing defamation case filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar against actor Kangana Ranaut after the 'Thalaivii' star failed to appear before the court.
The court also warned that it will issue an arrest warrant against Kangana, if she failed to appear on the next date. which is scheduled for September 20. Even though Kangana missed the hearing, Javed Akhtar and his actor wife Shabana Azmi were present in court on Tuesday.
Kangana’s lawyer Rizwan Siddique told the court, that the actor was busy promoting her film for the past few days and was now showing Covid symptoms, and therefore could not attend the court.

However, Javed Akhtar’s lawyer, submitted that Kangana was trying to delay the proceedings. He pointed out that she had not appeared before the court despite several notices, adding that he has moved a plea for issuing a non-bailable warrant against the actress, if she failed to appear on the next date.
Akhtar filed the complaint against Ranaut in November 2020, alleging that she made some defamatory and baseless comments against him in a television interview.
