The Congress party countered the Bharatiya Janata Party's attack on Rahul Gandhi by moving a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17 March 2023.

Congress MP KC Venugopal accused PM Modi of making "derogatory, insulting, distasteful, and defamatory remarks" against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

He referred to Modi's speech in Rajya Sabha on 9 February when he commented on members of the Gandhi family not using 'Nehru' as their surname.
