In a disturbing incident, a teenager apparently committed suicide in a school hostel because the warden allegedly refused to let him speak to his mother on her birthday.

The 14-year-old's mother's birthday was on June 11, and he requested the hostel warden for a mobile phone to speak to her. However, the warden did not provide the student with a phone, as per police.

Subsequently, the boy's family members tried to call him, but were not allowed to talk to him, police said. Distressed by this, the teenager reportedly hanged himself the same night and left behind a suicide note.

The body was found by other students on June 12 morning, and the deceased's family reached the hostel a few hours later. The incident occurred in Mangaluru, and the boy was a resident of Hosakote, Bengaluru.
