Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra revealed that Hollywood actor Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, auditioned for his film 'Rang De Basanti' but could not star in it.
Mehra in his book, revealed Craig auditioned for the role of the British jailer who walked the three freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev to their hanging. Mehra added that Craig could not feature in the film at that time, as he was being considered for the role of James Bond.
The filmmaker added that Craig was his first choice, but the British actor requested more time as he was also being considered to be the next James Bond.
Critically acclaimed film 'Rang De Basanti' is easily one of the most popular films, as it resonated with India's youth. The film was widely appreciated for its story-telling and brilliant performances by actors like Aamir Khan, Atul Kulkarni, Waheeda Rehman, and Siddharth Narayan.
The film also received the National Film Award for Best Popular Film.
