The Union Cabinet has cleared the setting up of AIIMS in Bihar's Darbhanga, as the state heads into assembly polls.

The hospital will be established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, at a total cost of Rs 1,264 crore and is likely to be completed within a period of 48 months, according to the govt.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for seven projects in the state, related to urban infrastructure worth Rs 541 crore via video conferencing. In the petroleum sector, the prime minister inaugurated three projects worth Rs 900 crore.

Bihar goes to polls in October and November. A poll panel delegation is currently touring the state to take stock of election preparedness amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
