Speaking at the Curtain Raiser event of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2022, an annual flagship event organised by TERI, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said, in India, the agriculture sector consumed about 85% water, and hence the maximum saving must happen here, by implementing newer technologies, and a shift towards agro-forestry methods. He added the govt is incentivising forestry practices where water is being conserved.

He also stressed on the judicious use of water in our homes, adding that 50-60% of water can be saved, by judicious use of tapped water. He also added that water in housing societies or building complexes can be conserved by using rooftop water harvesting methods.
