A brief informal exchange between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chinese President Xi Jinping has stirred up interest after a video of it was posted on Twitter by a Canadian reporter.

In the video posted by Annie Bergeron-Oliver of Canada's CTV National News, a displeased Xi can be seen telling Trudeau that giving complete details about the talks between the two leaders during a bilateral on November 15 was inappropriate.

'Everything we discussed has been leaked to the papers, that is not appropriate. And that was not the way the conversation was conducted,' Xi told Trudeau through a translator.

'In Canada, we believe in free, and open, and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together, but there will be things we will disagree on,' the Canadian Prime Minister replied as he stood his ground.

''That's great, but let's create the conditions first,' Xi replied as he made a parting shot.

The two leaders then shook hands and went their separate ways.

Xi Jinping and Justin Trudeau held a bilateral meeting on Tuesday on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
