USA: Indian-American family attacked by masked men; husband dies, wife, daughter injured, say cops

An Indian-American family was attacked by masked men in USA's Georgia, in the second such incident reported within a week.

52-year-old Pinal Patel died, while his wife Rupalben and daughter Bhakti were injured in the incident which took place on 20 January 2023 on Thoroughbred Lane near Hartley Bridge Road, Georgia.

Three masked men with guns attacked the Indian-American family when it arrived home from work, police said. Shots were fired when Pinal Patel confronted the masked men.

After deputies arrived, they found Pinal, his wife Rupalben Patel, and daughter Bhakti Patel, suffering from gunshot wounds in the driveway of their home, a police statement said. All three were transported to Atrium Health where Pinal was later pronounced deceased by Deputy Coroner Luann Stone, it said.

Rupalben and her daughter are stated to be in stable condition.

The three masked individuals then ran to a dark in colour vehicle waiting across the street occupied by a fourth person, the statement said. The individuals then fled the scene and no items were reported to have been taken from the family, it said.

Meanwhile, on 22 January, a 23-year-old Indian student named Devsish Nandepu was shot dead during a robbery in Chicago.
