Nearly 1,000 arrested in Pakistan's Punjab after PTI protests: Police

Nearly 1000 protesters have been arrested by police in Pakistan's Punjab amid the violence across the country over former PM Imran Khan's arrest, AFP reported citing police officials. 

“Police teams arrested 945 lawbreakers and miscreants from across the province,” AFP quoted the police as saying. It added that 130 officers and officials were injured in the violence that broke out after the ex-PM’s arrest a day earlier.

Meanwhile, Army personnel have been deployed in Punjab province to maintain law and order situation.

“The exact numbers of troops/assets, date and area of deployment will be worked out by the provincial government in consultation with MO Dte, GHQ,” an interior ministry notification said.
