Even as China is issuing threats to countries imposing Covid testing rules on travellers from the country, the World Health Organisation has criticised Beijing.

WHO's emergencies director on 4 January 2023 said that the current numbers from China "under-represent the true impact of the disease in terms of hospital admissions, ICU admissions, and deaths".

The WHO also said that Beijing is using a very "narrow" definition to declare Covid as the cause of death of patients.
