A day after rioting and vandalism at government buildings in Brazil's capital, former President Jair Bolsonaro's wife said that he has been admitted to a hospital in America.

Bolsonaro is reportedly receiving care at a hospital outside Orlando, Florida, after suffering abdominal pain related to a 2018 stabbing attack.

On 8 January 2023, alleged supporters of Bolsonaro invaded and vandalised the Presidential palace, the Supreme Court, and the Congress buildings in Brasilia. They allege election fraud after Bolsonaro lost the recent polls.

Bolsonaro condemned the violence, even as his successor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva blamed the right-wing leader for inciting the uprising.
