According to blog WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has begun beta testing end-to-end encryption for cloud backups.

The feature will let users add a password to their cloud backups on Android or iOS, which would then make them secure from any prying eyes, including Apple and Google, or even WhatsApp themselves.

However, if the users forget the password that they set or lose their phone, they will not be able to restore the backup.

The feature has begun rolling out to some WhatsApp beta users, and should be widely available soon.
