According to a new report out of South Korea, Samsung is developing MicroLED technology for smartwatches. This change in display technology will replace the current OLED displays in Galaxy Watches.

The new technology offers improved brightness, contrast, and colour reproduction, as well as better visibility in direct sunlight. MicroLEDs are also more power-efficient, potentially extending battery life.

Samsung has reportedly created a new team to work on this project with the goal of commercialising it in the near future. This may allow Samsung to retain Apple as a customer, as there have been reports that Apple plans to use MicroLED technology for its smartwatches.
