According to a recent report by the South China Morning Post, Apple is planning to diversify its production by increasing the production of iPhones in India. The company aims to produce up to 50% of its iPhones in India by 2027. This move is being made to reduce dependence on China, where iPhone components are currently sourced from.
However, this shift has also negatively impacted the company's earnings estimates and stock prices. Currently, India accounts for only 5% of iPhone production, but newer models are being assembled there soon after production begins in China. It's also rumored that Apple will begin simultaneous production in China and India for the iPhone 15 series.
Additionally, Apple is increasing the production of AirPods and MacBooks in Vietnam instead of China. However, an analyst in the report suggests that maintaining quality standards in a diversified supply chain may be a concern for the company.
