The Govt panel has approved the Tata Group's bid for the take over of Air India.Govt is likely to handover control of the airline to the new owners by December. Third time lucky, can be said for govt's attempt to privatise the nation's largest carrier that has not made profits in 15 years and is losing $200 million a day.
What is the Tata Group paying for Air India?
Tata consortium will pay Rs 18,000 crore to acquire Air India from the government and of the total money 15% would go to the government and the rest to clear part of the debt.
What does the Tata Group get?
Tata Group can now stake claim to Air India's 4,400 domestic and 1,800 international landing and parking slots at domestic airports, as well as 900 slots at overseas airports.
The deal also includes Air India’s profitable low-cost arm Air India Express and 50 percent of AISATS, which offers cargo and ground handling services at major Indian airports.
