T20 World Cup: Kashmir MBBS students booked under UAPA for allegedly celebrating Pakistan win

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday registered two separate cases under UAPA against those who allegedly celebrated the Pakistan team’s win against India in the T20 World Cup. 

The cases were registered under section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 105A and 505 IPC.  

Reports said police have taken notice of two incidents– one at the hostel of the SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar’s Soura and another at the hostel of the Government Medical College. 

Reportedly students pursuing MBBS and other degrees residing in the un-married hostel of SKIMS raised slogans and burst firecrackers”. 
 
The police have also filed an FIR against the students residing at the GMC hostel, “who were allegedly crying and dancing after Pakistan won the World Cup T20 match against India”. 

A local news report said that the FIRs are still open and the accused are yet to be identified.
