Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu, Sharath Kamal elected in IOA's first-ever Athletes Commission

It was a historic moment for the Indian athletes as the Indian Olympic Association announced the nation's first-ever athletes commission. The 10-member commission has 5 male and 5 female members as per the rules. 

Rani Rampal, MC Mary Kom, Gagan Narang, OP Karahana, Shiva Keshavan, PV Sindhu, Bhavani Devi, Mirabai Chanu, Bajrang Lal Thakkar and Sharath Kamal were elected after the polls.

Only 10 candidates filed nominations for the same number of seats in the Athletes Commission and Umesh Sinha, who is also the returning officer of the upcoming IOA elections, declared all of them elected unopposed.

India's first Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra who is a member of the International Olympics Committee's athletes commission and former hockey Indian team captain Sardar Singh who currently is a part of Olympic Council of Asia Commission with also be a part of IOA's commission as ex-officio members.
