Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson said that it was an injustice for Simon Katich to leave SRH ahead of IPL 2022. Simon was appointed as the assistant coach for SRH. He left before the IPL, giving bio-bubble a reason for his departure. It was believed that Simon wasn't happy with the auction picks hence he decided to step down from his role.

On a YouTube podcast by 'The Grade Cricketer', the newly appointed assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, Shane Watson said, "Alarm bells started when Simon Katich left just after the auction. That's normally not a great sight because Katich is one of the most generally good people."
