Chasing a modest 169-run target, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma provided Mumbai a steady start with a 49-run stand with Rohit doing the bulk of the scoring. Ishan Kishan failed to make any impression as he managed to score only 8 runs off 20 balls before getting dismissed. It seemed Rohit would play a sheet anchor role in the chase but he threw his wicket away in search of a big hit. Tilak Verma steered Mumbai's innings and kept the hopes alive of the fans but a disciplined bowling line-up of Lucknow ensured that they won't leak runs in a heap. Thus handing the five-time champions yet another defeat.

Earlier, KL Rahul produced yet another masterclass and completed his second century this season. Rahul, who had scored a century against Mumbai a few days ago, smashed an unbeaten 103 off 62 balls with the help of 12 fours and four sixes but didn't get enough support from the other batters. Manish Pandey had a 58-run stand with Rahul but he lacked intent while Marcus Stoinis (0), Krunal Pandya (1) and Deepak Hooda (10) went back to the pavilion in quick succession. Then Rahul stitched a 47-run stand with Badoni which helped Lucknow post 168-6.
