Hosts India are out of the Hockey World Cup 2023 as they were beaten by New Zealand 5-4 in a penalty shootout in the crossover match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar on Sunday.

Both sides fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw in normal time with New Zealand coming back from a 2-goal deficit to draw 3-3 at the end.

With Indian goalkeeper Sreejesh getting injured midway through the penalty shootout, India failed to win the lottery in the end and saw their tournament end in a rather disappointing manner.
