Lionel Messi's Argentina lifted itself from the humiliation against Saudi Arabia with a stunning 2-0 win over feeble Mexico in their 2nd Group C game at FIFA World Cup 2022.

After a frustrating first half, 35-year-old Messi, who is apparently playing his last World Cup, broke the deadlock with a magical long-range strike in the 64th minute, rekindling his team's hopes of making it to the next stage of the quadrennial tournament.

In the 87th minute, Enzo Fernandez doubled the lead, ensuring the crucial 3 points for the La Albiceleste who were on the brink of elimination after the 2-1 defeat in their WC opening game.

Argentina are now sitting on the 2nd spot in the Group C table and will next face table leaders Poland in their final group game.
