In a big setback for the Indian cricket team ahead of the final Test against England, captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid.

Rohit, who was missing from action during the third day of India’s practice match against Leicestershire, is currently isolating at the team hotel.

The Indian skipper had yielded a positive result during a Rapid Antigen Test on Saturday.

There were questions being asked when India didn’t open with Rohit Sharma in the second innings of the practice game, but now it’s clear why KS Bharat opened alongside Shubman Gill.

The final Test against England is only days away, and it will be a race against time for Rohit to be fit for that crucial clash at Edgbaston.

With Rohit’s deputy KL Rahul also not in England, India are yet to name the vice-captain and it will be interesting to see who takes over the captaincy mantle in case Rohit isn’t available.

Last year, it was a Covid scare in the Indian camp that postponed the final Test against the Three Lions and by the looks of it, the virus is back to haunt them.
