As India celebrated its 73rd Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to celebrated cricketers Chris Gayle and Jonty Rhodes, acknowledging their "profound connection" with the country.

Responding to the letter, both the cricketers congratulated India on Republic Day. Gayle wrote that he woke up to a personal message from Prime Minister Modi, reaffirming his close personal ties with him and to the people of India. Later Rhodes too tweeted to say that he has grown so much as an individual on every visit to India. 'My whole family celebrates Republic Day with all of India, honouring the importance of a Constitution that protects the rights of the Indian people', added Rhodes.
