Rohit Sharma hasn't been at his destructive best for quite some time now and that cost the Hitman big time as Martin Guptill on Wednesday leapfrogged Rohit to become the new leading run-scorer in T20I.
The New Zealand opener overtook the Indian skipper after a 40-run knock in the first T20I against Scotland. Guptill now has 3399 runs in T20I in 112 innings, 20 more than what Rohit has scored in 120 innings.
The Hitman, who was on the top of the table after the England series, was moved down to the second spot. However, Rohit will have a big opportunity to reclaim the top spot sooner rather than later as India is scheduled to play a 5-match T20 series vs the West Indie starting July 29, which will be followed by the Asia Cup in late August.
