IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma explains why Shreyas Iyer could not find place in 1st T20I

On the day, Shreyas Iyer was appointed as Kolkata Knight Riders' new captain, he failed to make it to the India Playing XI for 1st T20I against West Indies.

In the post-match presentation, India's white-ball captain Rohit Sharma explained the reason behind Shreyas' omission from India playing XI.

"Someone like Shreyas Iyer is sitting out, very hard on him not making it to playing eleven, but we needed someone to bowl in the middle which is why we couldn't get him in", Rohit said.

India won the first T20 against West Indies by 6 wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The second T20 match of the three-match series will take place on Friday at the same venue.
