Cricket Umpire Rudi Koertzen tragically dies in car crash

One of the most popular umpires in recent times, Rudi Koertzen, has tragically died in a car crash in South Africa's Riversdale.

Koertzen and three others were killed in a head-on collision.

A resident of Despatch in Nelson Mandela Bay, the 73-year-old was on his way back home from a golfing weekend when the accident happened.

Koertzen officiated in 331 international matches in total, including 100+ Test matches.

To honour Rudi Koertzen, the South African players are wearing black armbands in their warm-up fixture against the England Lions.
