Following Team India's disappointing show at the T20 World Cup 2022, where Rohit Sharma's men were humiliated in the semi-finals, the BCCI are once again looking towards MS Dhoni for answers.

Sources inside the Indian board had alreay hinted towards an overhaul in India's T20 set-up and according to reports, the BCCI is deliberating to call on Dhoni for a permanent role with the Indian cricket team.

According to a report in The Telegraph, BCCI feels that managing all 3 formats by himself has become challenging for head coach Rahul Dravid. So, the board is keen on splitting the duties and is interested in involving Dhoni in the T20 set-up.

MSD was appointed as the mentor of Team India just a week before T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE but that didn't prove fruitfull as the Men in Blue were knocked out of the group stage itself. However, the BCCI feels that a bigger & larger role would certainly help India in the shortest format of the game.

Mahi has often reiterated the fact that he wants to play his last game in Chennai and since the IPL is back to it's home and away format from the 2023 season, it might be Dhoni's last hurrah. This will provide the BCCI with an opportunity to rope in the double World Cup winner well in time before the 2024 World T20.

Dhoni's services can prove crucial as he known to be a master of winning ICC trophies, something which Team India failed to add to its cabinet since the 2013 Champions Trophy triumph in England.
