Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has broken his silence over the Income Tax raids that were being conducted at his Mumbai home and other properties connected to the actor.
In a statement tweeted by the actor, he said, he has pledged himself to the service of the people with all his strength and heart.
He added, that every rupee that is sent to the Sonu Sood Foundation is used to save a precious life or reach the needy. He went on to say that he has also encouraged brands to donate his endorsement fees for humanitarian causes.
After visiting his Mumbai home for three days in a row, Income Tax officials on Sunday said that Sood has evaded taxes of over ₹20 crore. The tax department also said Sood's non-profit raised ₹2.1 crore from overseas donors using a crowdfunding platform which is in violation of the law.
The I-T depart said, there have been instances where Sood's professional receipts have been camouflaged as loans in the books of accounts for the purpose of evasion of tax, adding that these bogus loans have been used for making investments and acquiring properties.
The ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the Aam Aadmi Party have questioned the timing of the searches at Sonu Sood's home. The BJP has said there is no link between Sood's tie-up with AAP and the searches.
