Bringing relief from sweltering heat, the southwest monsoon is set to spread rapidly across the country in the next 6 to 7 days. The weather department expects heavy to very heavy rainfall, especially over the western Himalayan region and Uttar Pradesh from July 17 to 20.
There will be heavy falls in Punjab, Haryana, east Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh from July 18 to 20 as well as isolated heavy rain in Delhi on July 18
The IMD has also cautioned people of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and south Rajasthan, where moderate to severe thunderstorm with lightning is very likely.

Heavy rain is also expected over northeast India, according to the forecast. Widespread rainfall is very likely to continue over the west coast and remaining parts of west peninsular India, except for Gujarat.
