Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at the government for not paying ex-gratia compensation to families of those who died of Covid.

The Centre told the Supreme Court that it won’t be able to pay Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who have died of Covid. It said that the deadly virus has caused more than 3.85 lakh deaths so far and that states cannot afford to pay every victim.

Rahul Gandhi in his tweet wrote that people who had to first suffer due to lack of treatment are now being struck by the government’s cruelty and being denied a ‘small help’.
