The Opposition has lashed out at the BJP in Uttarakhand after the newly-sworn chief minister of the state Tirath Singh Rawat compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Lord Ram and Krishna.

Uttarakhand Chief minister made the remarks during a local event organised by a charity foundation in Haridwar on Sunday.

"Lord Ram worked for the same society and people started to believe that he was a god. In the coming time, Narendra Modi will also be seen at par with him (Lord Ram)," Rawat said.

Tirath Singh Rawat was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, day after the resignation of Trivendra Singh Rawat last week.
