OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau has said in a blog post that OxygenOS will merge with Oppo’s ColorOS into a new unified operating system in 2022. Earlier this year, OnePlus officially merged with and became a sub-brand of Oppo.

In the post, Lau says the companies aim to combine the strengths of both operating systems, namely the fast and smooth experience of OxygenOS with stability and features of ColorOS, for both OnePlus and Oppo devices globally.

Lau also clarified that OnePlus would customise this new OS for its own devices to provide a ‘clean and lightweight experience’ and support unlocked bootloaders.

The new unified OS will launch with OnePlus’ flagship devices next year, and also be made available to older devices globally in the 2022 major Android update.
