The Supreme Court on Thursday called out the Centre for submitting an 'evasive' and 'brazen' affidavit on the alleged motivated media reporting in the Tablighi Jamat case. A bench headed by CJI SA Bobde was hearing pleas by the Jamiat-Ulma-i-Hind who alleged that a section of media was spreading communal hatred over the Tablighi Jamat congregation that took place in March. The SC also asked the I&B Ministry to submit a fresh affidavit with details of steps taken in past to curb the motivated media reporting and also snapped at the centre for accusing the petitioners of muzzling the freedom of speech. The top court went on to say that the Freedom of Speech is the most abused right in recent times.
