The Instagram you know and love could soon be changing drastically. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced in a video that Instagram is now longer just a photo-sharing app.
Instead, the app is now going to embrace video more broadly, in a ‘mobile-first’ way, Mosseri said.
What does this mean for users? Well, Instagram will soon start showing you videos in full-screen form on your feed. These videos could even be from accounts you don’t follow, as recommendations.
Mosseri said that people now look to Instagram for entertainment, rather than just photos, and the app will evolve to serve that need. He also specifically named TikTok and YouTube as competition, indicating a change in Instagram’s vision.

Mosseri also announced a new focus on the key areas of shopping and messaging, and highlighted the need to provide a platform for creators to make a living.
Instagram already includes some shopping features, like being able to buy products seen in a post in one tap, but perhaps these could be rolled out to more creators soon.

The app also revamped messaging not long ago, including integration with Facebook Messenger, GIF support, voice notes, and all other features expected from modern messaging clients.
With these drastic changes in vision, your experience with Instagram will also change very soon. Mosseri, on his part, has promised to keep users updated about the new things Instagram is trying over the coming months.
