Chaos broke out in the Rajya Sabha as BJP MPs disrupted proceedings on 20 December 2022 over Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's comments in Rajasthan's Alwar a day earlier.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar warned protesting MPs. He said, "I do not appreciate such unruly scenes and chaotic behaviour in the House. This House is a very august House. Everything spoken here carries great weight. Anyone who has to say anything, should take recourse to rules."

Once the shouting subsided, BJP MP and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said, "Yesterday, Mallikarjun Kharge, who is the Leader of Opposition, gave an objectionable speech in Alwar. Kharge made baseless claims, and tried to put lies before the nation. I condemn this and demand an apology."

Kharge responded by saying, "My political comments were made outside the House, not inside the House. There is no need to discuss this here. I say this again, during the freedom movement, these people did not have any role."

In Alwar, Kharge had said that the Modi government talks like a lion, but acts like a mouse. He also reportedly asked whether "even a dog" of the saffron party died for the country.
