Amid a tussle over the Manipur issue in Parliament, the Narendra Modi government on July 31 told the Rajya Sabha that it was ready for a short discussion the same day at 2 pm.

Union minister Piyush Goyal accused the Opposition parties of wanting to hide something by delaying the discussion on Manipur.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge responded that the Opposition wants a long-duration discussion by suspending other business of the House.

Subsequently, protests broke out and the House was adjourned for nearly an hour.
