The Centre has rubbished protests by some state governments over exclusion of their Tableaux from the upcoming Republic Day parada. The central government has accused the states of adopting a wrong precedent by questioning the objective process of Tableaux selection, reports quoting govt sources have said.
The Centre's retort came amid furore over the exclusion of Bengal and Tamil Nadu's tableaux from the upcoming Republic Day Parade and the Chief Ministers writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an intervention.
The Centre has accused the states of "projecting" the exclusion as "an insult".

Referring to the letters by chief ministers, the central government has said that the same "script also plays out almost every year".
The Chief Ministers "perhaps have no positive agenda of their own" and "they have to resort to the same old trick using misinformation year after year", reports quoted govt sources as saying.
The govt sources further clarified that it's no the Modi government that selects Tableaux for the parade. The tableaux proposals received from various states and central ministries are evaluated in a series of meetings of the Expert Committee comprising eminent people in the field of art, culture, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography, etc.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the omission of their states' tableaux and sought his intervention.
