Delhi CM Atishi accuses Delhi Police of intimidating AAP workers, demands officer transfers

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi has written a letter to the Election Officer of Delhi, accusing the Delhi Police of attempting to close the investigation into an incident where BJP workers allegedly intimidated AAP volunteers on January 21 and 22. 

Atishi requested the transfer of the police officers involved, citing their attempts to pressure AAP volunteers into making false statements.

In her letter, Atishi explained that she had filed complaints regarding the intimidation on January 21 and 22. She attached both complaints to her letter, highlighting that on January 21, she received a notice under Section 94 BNSS from the SHO of Govindpuri concerning her complaint. 

However, instead of investigating, she claims that police officers began pressuring AAP volunteers to retract their statements.

“Atishi’s letter further detailed the actions of the police officers, including SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan, who reportedly tried to coerce volunteers into signing false statements that claimed no intimidation or violence had occurred. These officers allegedly met with volunteers such as Vijeta, Rekha Bassi, and Deepa Deol, dictated false statements to them, and then pressured them to sign," the letter said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that her volunteers were willing to give statements in the presence of their legal representatives, but they were being forced to sign incomplete and false documents. 

When the volunteers refused, the police allegedly tore up their objections. Atishi expressed concerns over the collusion of the local police officers and called for their immediate transfer, specifically requesting that SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan be reassigned out of the area.

Earlier this week, Atishi had also called for the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kalkaji to ensure the safety of voters and party workers as the Delhi Assembly elections draw near. The elections are set for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8, amid escalating tensions between the AAP and BJP.
