The chief of the World Health Organisation surprised everyone, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at an event on April 19. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus spoke in Gujarati at a WHO event in Gujarat.

PM Modi and his Mauritius counterpart Pravind Kumar Jugnauth were also present at the Ahmedabad programme. It was the foundation-laying of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine.

The government said that the Centre will be "the first and only global outpost centre for traditional medicine across the world. It will emerge as an international hub of global wellness."

Speaking at the event, Ghebreyesus said that he has a special connection with India, and that his Indian teachers had taught him about traditional medicine. The WHO chief also spoke about his love for Bollywood movies, and said that he knows that Swiss Alps are a favourite destination of Bollywood fans.
