Joshimath 'sinking': Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami on evacuation efforts

Amid continuing worry over the fate of Joshimath town which is facing the threat of sinking due to land subsidence, Uttarakhand Chief Minister provided an update regarding the situation.

Pushkar Singh Dhami said on 9 January 2023, "Our first priority is that Joshimath town must survive, and lives and property must be protected. Everyone is working towards this goal."

Regarding the evacuations, he said, "People living in 68 houses, which were at risk, have been shifted. Work is underway to shift people from the zone which includes 600 houses."

"PM Modi is constantly monitoring the situation," he added.
