Omicron variant is a silent killer. That was CJI NV Ramana's observation in response to a lawyer's request to start physical hearing in the top court on fulltime basis.

The CJI's remarks came after senior lawyer Vikas Singh, who heads the Supreme Court Bar Association, requested the Supreme Court to revert to full physical hearings as Covid cases have been declining.

To Singh's request, the CJI said : "Omicron is a silent killer, you know. I suffered in the first wave but recovered in four days, but now, in this wave, it has been 25 days and I am still suffering."

Vikas Singh then pointed out that Omicron is a much milder Covid variant.

To CJI's personal experience of suffering from complications for 25 days, Vikas Singh said: "Your Lordship has been unfortunate. People are recovering".

The Supreme Court is still working on the hybrid model with both virtual and physical hearings.
