In a big surprise for his host country, the British High Commissioner to India spoke in Hindi at an event on March 30.
During celebrations at The Queen's Birthday Party event at the High Commission in Delhi, Alex Ellis touched upon a host of issues, while speaking in Hindi.
Ellis commented on the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid, before saying that his Hindi 'guruji' would be hiding due to embarrassment.

He said, "Last year was very difficult due to Covid. These days, the situation in Ukraine is difficult because of Russia."
Ellis added, "That is the extent of my Hindi. My Hindi teacher is here somewhere, and he's probably hiding with embarrassment. Guruji, my apologies."
