The International Cricket Council released their schedule of events from 2024-2031 and has decided to expand the World Cups. The 50-over World Cup will have 14 teams from 2027 which is currently a 10-team event. This format was last used in the 2003 edition when India finished as the runners up. The format will have two groups of seven, with the top three in each group progressing to a Super Six stage, followed by semi-finals and final. The World T20 will also be played now with 20 teams as the ICC decided to expand that event. The cricket body has also re-introduced the Champions Trophy and will follow the same old format of 8-teams with two groups of four, semi-finals and final.
