Harmanpreet Singh, Gurjit Kaur win best player awards as India sweep FIH awards

India dominated the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) Hockey Stars Awards 2020/21 with drag-flickers Gurjit Kaur and Harmanpreet Singh winning the women's and men's Player of the Year awards.

PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia won the men's and women's honours respectively for Goalkeeper of the Year. The FIH in a statement said that this year's awards covered the period from January 2020 through to the conclusion of the Tokyo Olympics, as the awards were cancelled last year de to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The Indian men's team ended a 41-year drought of Olympic medals in hockey as they won bronze. The women's team too had a spectacular outing and equalled its best-ever finish at an Olympics by finishing 4th.
